Garden Tails has been developed by Playdots, creator of the mobile game Dots, Two Dots and Dots and Co.
“When we created the game, we designed to provide players with an extremely relaxing and tranquil experience.” It’s not the kind of thing you would might expect from the game designer. However, this is exactly the kind of thing Sandra Honigman, Game Designer and Game Lead of Garden Tails: Match and Grow was thinking about when she was working on the brand new game of match-3.
Within Garden Tails, the player is a gardener, helping revive an abandoned garden, and fill it with adorable pets is the main objective. Once you’ve completed the restoration of the garden, you can move to the next one.
Garden Tails stays away from the notion that games must be competitive for them to be fun. Instead, it lets you relieve stress from your day, helping you feel relaxed and find positive energy.
“If you’re looking to unwind after a long day with something easy and simple to drink, Garden Tails is for those who want to cool down,” Sandra tells in an interview on video. Sandra got many of her ideas from the parks and gardens she explored during her time in New York City with her team. In the end, it was the catalyst for shaping the sport and introduced the concept of relaxation and serenity which is embedded into gardens, especially in urban settings.
The development on Garden Tails started in late 2018, long before Sandra was brought on board. In the beginning, a small group was working on the prototype, while the game was still in the stage of development for a lengthy. “From the very beginning of process, we thought that the game was about relaxation and enjoying gardening. The focus changed as we added animals and realized that animals characters was the primary theme,” Sandra said. “We changed from a project that was narrative-free to something that told a story about these creatures,” Sandra added.
Every Garden of Garden Tails is distinctive and animal characters shift from one garden to the next garden but there’s a common character who is always moving with you, and will keep you in the world of their characters. When you’ve renovated your garden and solve matching puzzles, you’ll earn seeds and in-game coins which can be used for unlocking the stories.
“There’s no hard-hitting message, but more of an account of the struggle of someone else, and how they overcome it using gardening as a key location of conflict,” she explained.
Exclusively accessible on the Apple Arcade gaming subscription program, Garden Tails is a free game that has no ads or in-app purchases. You pay Apple monthly fees and you’ll get access to more than 100 games that aren’t available on other platforms and cross-platform play allows you to pick up games and enjoy them on an iPhone or your iPad or even your Mac.
Garden Tails is a match-3 puzzle game that is aimed at people who don’t have a lot of time with games that are fun to play. Match-3 games don’t receive the same level of attention as battle royale titles like PUBGL despite having millions of casual gamers. “We think this market obviously, quite large as any kind of gamer can be able to sit and play and play any game in the casual puzzle area,” she said.

It’s been just a few days after Garden Tails made its debut on Apple Arcade, the developer has already announced plans to release multiple updates over the next few months, with new gardens, brand new characters, stories, levels, and a few fun new features.
